History Of Saugeen Shores
The area now known as Saugeen Shores has a rich history dating back thousands of years, with evidence of Indigenous people living in the region for at least 10,000 years. The Ojibwe and other Indigenous groups used the area for fishing, hunting, and trading.
The first European explorers arrived in the area in the 1600s, and the French were the first to establish a permanent settlement in the region. In the late 1700s, the British took control of the area and established a fur trade post at the mouth of the Saugeen River.
